Deep within the enchanting rolling fields, lived a young shepherd. His life was essentially unadulterated, simple yet virtuous. His main role was to look after his herd of sheep.

Their gentle baas and the rustling of the gales through the solo tree on the mountaintop were his main associates. Day in day, looking out for his wards instilled in him a sense of tranquil contentment.

But, there were the occasional moments of loneliness, when the shepherd boy would yearn for fellowship. In one such instance because of sheer boredom, the shepherd boy orchestrated a troublesome plot.

Stories of predators preying on sheep had been heard times and again in the hamlet. So, the boy chose to used this fear and played a trick on the townsfolk.

One day he raced into the village yelling “Wolf! There is a wolf preying on my sheep!” The terrified villagers rushed up the hills to offer assistance but found no beast.

The boy laughed at the puzzle on their faces. This prank laughed for a few more days. However, one day, a real wolf did charge at the herd. The shepherd boy dashed for help, screaming “Wolf, Wolf!” But website this time, no one responded.

Frustrated and alone, the boy battled against the wolf but managed to rescue only few of his sheep. Heartbroken, he went back to the village only to receive a scolding on honesty and the results of crying wolf.

The tale of this shepherd boy has been transmitted generations as a mediaeval parable for teaching the importance of honesty, the consequences of lying and the dangers of false alarms. Moreover, it highlights how trust once violated, is hard to reclaim. It's a story as pertinent today as it was anciently.
